Carpenter Technology has identified soft magnetic materials and
stacks for Electrification as a key strategic growth platform. --In
order to help meet increasing demand for aerospace, consumer
electronics and electric vehicle manufacturing customers, Carpenter
Technology has invested in soft magnetics production capabilities
in Reading, PA.-- The stack prototyping and low-rate production
facility for electric motor applications is based at the Motor
Technology Center (MTC), located in Reading, PA, with plans to
expand stack production at the company's Tanner, AL location just
outside of Huntsville, Alabama.----SCALE-UP AND MANUFACTURING
DIRECTOR - Soft Magnetic Materials and StacksLOCATION:-- This role
will require managing the prototype and low-rate manufacturing
operations at the MTC in Reading, PA--and scaling the operations to
our--Tanner, Alabama (outside of Huntsville)--operations.--Travel
between the locations will be 25%- 50%.Requires US Citizen or Green
Card HolderPOSITION SUMMARY - We are seeking an experienced
scale-up and production leader to join the Electrification
leadership team to head the Electrification Stack Production
Platform, helping to drive strategic growth at Carpenter.-- This
individual is expected to have a broad engineering and
manufacturing knowledge base with a focus on parts assembly and a
proven track record of leading scale-up from prototype to
manufacturing.-- This leader will influence strategy for growth in
stacks and be responsible for establishment of manufacturing and
quality processes to position the company as a leader in stacks for
electric motors.-- The role will require managing the prototype and
low-rate manufacturing operation at the MTC in Reading and scaling
the operations to Tanner, Alabama.------PRIMARY
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead Safety as a Core Value throughout the operation.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, operators, and
technicians.
- Manage the manufacturing activities in the stack technology
area (10-12 work centers) at the Motor Technology Center (MTC) in
Reading, PA
- Work closely with the R&D team at the MTC to translate
technology prototypes to a manufacturing environment.
- Manage the capacity expansion and scale up from the MTC into
larger production quantities at a new green field facility in
Tanner, Alabama
- Develop production goals and objectives for the department that
are aligned with business growth targets.
- Build operational capability on all installed equipment for
production orders.
- Lead development of the production plan from prototype to
scale-up and mass production of rotor and stator parts for electric
motors
- Develop robust daily manufacturing activity aligned towards
maintaining OTD
- Lead oversight of hourly production operators and cross
training at critical work centers
- Develop, define, and lead the implementation of plans, actions,
and measurements to meet department goals.
- Measure and evaluate execution of the plans and make
appropriate adjustments to meet the aligned goals and objectives.
- Maintain and improve the knowledge base of the existing
manufacturing processes and incorporating it into MES shop floor
system and integrate it with quality systems, and process control
techniques.
- Identify, research and drive the implementation of improvement
opportunities and work with supporting resources to realize these
improvements opportunities.
- Drive and own departmental OEE results through
cross-departmental collaboration to achieve production targets,
quality performance targets and equipment availability.
- Evaluate and recommend new equipment, new processes or
maintenance technologies.
- Define and communicate performance expectations for staff and
coach and counsel them in the performance of job
responsibilities.
- Communicate monthly departmental results.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets.
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Effectively manage a portfolio of soft magnetics projects,
including maintaining a culture of accountability, effectively
allocating resources, and supporting project managers with risk
mitigation.
- Collaborate with other leaders and groups in R&D to build
effective project teams, leverage expertise to maximize impact of
resources, and ensure access to essential capabilities and
equipment necessary for project success.
- Perform other duties and special projects as
required.REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION
- 5+ years of experience at a production manager level in a
manufacturing environment.
- --Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial
Engineer, Electrical Engineering, or other related field
required.
- Experience in automotive production facility preferred.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong experience in working cross-functionally both within an
organization and outside using strong interpersonal skills to
secure expertise, resources and momentum necessary to advance major
programs.
- Experience with developing and managing budgets, implementing
and driving goals within the department.
- Experience evaluating and recommending new equipment and
processes through lean manufacturing.
- Ability to travel 25-50% between Reading, PA and Tanner,
AlabamaPREFERRED FOR THIS POSITION
- Experience with design and manufacture of stacked laminations
for stators is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to inspire, motivate and influence others.
