Overview

Provides a variety of services for sterilization reprocessing, following recommended practices for sterilization standards and instrument reprocessing. Responsible for assisting with daily instrument reprocessing needs for surgery and other departments at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Assists leadership team with staffing assignments.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

Responsible for all aspects of sterile processing, following manufacturers instructions and recommended sterilization standards: decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterile storage and distribution of sterile supplies. Works directly with leadership team, evaluating OR schedule frequently to determine priority patient care items. Responsible for overseeing training new employees in Sterile Processing. Understands operation & use of specific equipment used to clean and sterilize items. Thorough knowledge of operation & use of specific equipment used to clean and sterilize items, including required sterilization documentation. Assists leadership team with instrument repairs and inventory control. Thorough knowledge of current standards, recommended practices and manufacturer's instructions for reprocessing reusable items. Responsible for daily sterilization process testing. Knowledge of aseptic technique, principles of sterilization and infection prevention. Understands importance of work place safety as it relates to medical device processing, sterilization and distribution. Directly involved with call assignments for staff members; shares in call rotation. Follows instructions, adaptable to change, accountable. Good problem solving and leadership skills.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. OR experience preferred.

Experience: Minimum 3 years sterile processing experience;Certification in Sterile Processing preferred
