(EHS) is a senior EHS role responsible for developing strategy for
and providing EHS operational leadership and support to GE
Appliances' Decatur Plant Operations in Decatur, Alabama. This role
has responsibility for 1,700+ person plant, including GEA
employees, temporaries and contractors across a 3-shift assembly
and support operations spread out in 850,000 sq. ft manufacturing
buildings and warehouse on 85-acres along the Tennessee River. This
role is responsible for understanding and managing a complex set of
EHS regulatory requirements including Title V air emission
permitting, Process Safety Management (PSM), and the unique
environmental requirements associated with the site's close
proximity to the river. In addition to managing EHS compliance, the
role is also responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating
risk; responding to and preventing emergencies; and managing
short-term and long-term EHS liability.
Key responsibilities include developing the Site EHS strategy,
implementing business EHS policies and management systems; leading,
training, coaching, and mentoring the Decatur Plant EHS team to
support business operations; communicating internally and
externally on behalf of the business and function; and driving a
collaborative, problem-solving culture that supports open reporting
and delivers business results. This role is responsible for meeting
with external regulators (e.g., government inspectors) on a routine
and non-routine basis, preparing and submitting written regulatory
reports, and maintaining / negotiating permit conditions. This role
is also a key member of the Plant Staff supporting various other
operations and needs of the facility, which can be significant and
varied in a remote site. Position Director Environmental, Health &

EHS Leadership and Operations: Develop and execute Site EHS
Strategy. Provide functional EHS leadership and direction to
Decatur Plant EHS Team to support business needs based on
compliance requirements, business risk profile, change management
needs, and performance objectives. Position reports directly to
Executive Director, Decatur Plant Management, with a dotted-line
reporting structure to the Senior Director, EHS and Operations
Sustainability.
- Develop / align Decatur EHS strategic action plans with
business strategic objectives and functional EHS and sustainability
objectives. Deliver simple, strong, and sustainable compliance and
risk management solutions that are integrated in daily business
operations and lean enterprise strategy. Establish short to
mid-term and long-term operation plant goals and objectives that
directly impact the achievement of overall EHS results.
- Lead cross-functional team (e.g., Plant Manager, EHS Team
Members, Lean Leader, Operations Leader, Maintenance / Facilities
Leader, Ergonomics Leader) to develop and implement an injury
prevention and reduction plan. Integrate the actions required to
achieve sustainable injury reduction results in each business
unit's operational goals and metrics.
- Implement and maintain an EHS team operating rhythm to support
team needs (e.g., training on new regulations and standards),
collect and provide input to business strategic planning (e.g.,
annual budgeting, factory master planning), understand and respond
to changing business needs, and foster networking and best practice
sharing.
- Use data analytics and partner cross-functionally to analyze
trends and identify strategic business opportunities that may not
be readily visible using only anecdotal levels of feedback.
- Support and learn from incident investigations and leverage
enterprise-wide solutions. Lead, mentor, and/or participate in
events and incident investigations to ensure causal factors are
identified, prevention steps are taken and validated, and lessons
learned are shared and leveraged in a timely manner. Lead EHS
Training Program for the site to ensure employees have the
knowledge to perform their job safely.
- Invest in the EHS team's continuing education to ensure the
team is trained to identify hazards and deliver compliance and risk
management solutions at business-pace with consistent customer
service.
- Understand operational efficacy of each team member to build on
strengths and bolster weaknesses in daily EHS operations, project
management, emergency response, and customer service. Provide
mentoring and coaching.
- Recruit, retain, and promote excellent EHS team members. Ensure
each team member understands how his/her role contributes directly
to the success of our business. Identify and support career growth
paths for EHS team members.Management Systems and Compliance: This
role is responsible for understanding and managing a complex set of
EHS regulatory requirements including Title V air emission
permitting, Process Safety Management (PSM), and the unique
environmental requirements associated with the site's close
proximity to the river.
- Implement EHS management systems, processes, and procedures to
achieve sustainable compliance and business performance results.
Integrate EHS management tools in the lean enterprise operating
processes. Drive for solutions that address both short-term
operational risks and long-term environmental liability
management.
- Ensure compliance with the multiple Environmental Permits,
submit applications and updates as necessary and ensure compliance.
Develop strategy to reduce environmental profile/risk and lead
efforts for sustainability programs.
- Compliance with 14 Key Elements of Process Safety Management
through site leaders, employee involvement and a strong Mechanical
Integrity Program is critical to site safety.
- Through benchmarking, government relations, and industry trend
analysis, ensure emerging risks and regulations are identified and
escalated to the GEA Sr. EHS Director. Participation with Local
Emergency Planning Committee and EMA to create partnerships with
emergency response planning with local industry and government
agencies.Security Operations: This role also serves as the Site
security leader providing 24/7 support to the site, and is
responsible for staffing, training, and maintaining the site's
emergency response team, planning and executing site drills, and
supporting implementation of business security initiatives.
- Support Facilities Engineer with Security Assessments,
investigate workplace security threats and incidents, and lead
suspicious behaviors and package training. -
- Support and ensure compliance with the CTPAT program security
and compliance initiatives.
- Support Business Continuity Planning.Support Plant Staff:
- Support Plant Manager and staff in plant initiatives,
leadership meetings, presentations, problem solving, expansions,
budgeting, and employee relations issues.
- Support Factory Master Planning.Culture and Communication:
- Develop and maintain excellent internal and external
stakeholder relationships (e.g., regulatory agencies, Plant
Managers, Operations and Engineering Leaders).
- Respond to questions and/or concerns received from internal and
external stakeholders. Ensure timely, accurate responses.
- Drive a collaborative, problem-solving culture that supports
open reporting and sustainable achievement of business
results.
- Strong ability to influence executive level managers. What

practices. -Minimum Qualifications:
- BS or BA Degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health,
Environmental Science, or related discipline/experience.
- 10+ years of EHS experience leading and implementing EHS
compliance and risk management programs in an industrial /
manufacturing environment with demonstrated sustainable
results.
- 5+ years of experience leading and supervising a team of EHS,
engineering, and/or operations professionals.
- Experience working with multiple business functions, with
Supply Chain expertise.
- Experience responding to emergency situations such as fires,
spills, and injuries.
- Experience with Process Safety Management compliance
program.
- Strong ability to influence and guide executive-level managers.

- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Applications,
preferred experience or familiarity with GenSuite Applications, PHA
Works, Medgate, and Facility Manager Inspect & Track.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong
interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
